Privacy policy
Effective September 29, 2026
OpenTuner does not collect, store or share any personal data. The microphone is used only to hear the string you are tuning, and the sound never leaves your device.
What the app accesses
Microphone. It is the only permission OpenTuner requests. The microphone is open only while the tuner screen is visible, and it closes when you leave the app or the screen turns off. The sound is analyzed in memory, in real time, to find the pitch of the string, and then discarded. It is never recorded, saved to a file, or transmitted.
Nothing else. OpenTuner does not request internet access, location, contacts, storage, camera or any other permission. Without internet access, the app is unable to send data anywhere.
What stays on your device
Your choices (instrument, tuning, theme, note names, reference pitch and similar settings) are saved on your device so the app opens the way you left it. They are not personal data, are never sent anywhere, and are deleted when you uninstall the app.
What the app does not have
- No ads and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, telemetry or remote crash reporting.
- No account, sign-in or in-app purchases.
- No third-party services or SDKs that collect data.
Children
OpenTuner collects no data from anyone, including children under 13 or under the age of digital consent in their country.

If you choose a language with the buttons at the top of the page, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage so that the home page opens in that language next time. It never leaves your browser, and you can erase it by clearing this site's data in your browser. GitHub may keep technical logs, such as IP addresses, to operate the service, as described in the GitHub Privacy Statement.
